Skilled Legal Representation for Traffic Violations

Many states use a points system for traffic violations to include Georgia. The points go on your driving record and stay for specified periods of time. The more points you accumulate, the more likely you are to lose your driver’s license, and the higher risk you pose to your car insurance company. When a car insurance company determines your premiums, one of the biggest factors they look at is your history of traffic tickets.

When you are considered a “high-risk driver” by your insurance provider, you are subject to higher car insurance rates. If you were ticketed for excessive speeding, you’ll likely see bigger rate increases. Depending on the violation, getting just a single ticket can boost an average policyholder’s auto insurance premiums by as much as 73%, according to an analysis by insurance.com.

According to that analysis, percentage by which your insurance rates increase on average:

Reckless driving: 73%
Driving without a permit: 12%
Speeding 30 mph over the limit: 30%
Failure to stop: 19%
Speeding 16 to 29 mph over the limit: 22%

The difference between having a clean history and one that is pockmarked with citations can mean hundreds of dollars or more a year out of pocket.

How long will a ticket affect my rates?

You can expect a minimum to be rated on violations, accidents and suspensions for the last three years. Some insurance companies go back to the date of the incident, and others go back to the day of conviction.

Your traffic violations still go on your record even if you live in a state that does not use the points system; Georgia does use a points system. Violations such as speeding, reckless driving and DUI on your record will result in premium increases.

What is Georgia's Super Speeder Law?

Georgia’s Super Speeder Law defines a Super Speeder as a driver convicted of speeding at 75 mph or more on a two-lane road or at 85 mph and above on any road or highway in the State of Georgia.

In addition to the fines and fees paid for the ticket, a $200 Super Speeder state fee is to be paid by the convicted driver. Failure to pay the Super Speeder fee within 120 days of official notice will result in the suspension of your license.

Why hire a Savannah traffic ticket lawyer?

I am often asked this question.

The bottom line is this, you absolutely can use the money and pay it towards the ticket rather than an attorney; however, hiring an experienced attorney can make the difference between points on your license resulting in an increase in insurance fees costing you hundreds of dollars more over life or saving those hundreds of dollars over life. It’s up to you to decide what’s best for you.
